shri varadvinayak ganesh temple(mahad)

shri varadvinayak ganesh

Legend  has  it   that  the  childless  king,   Bhima  of  Koudinyapur,  and   his  wife  met  the   wise

(incantation) Ekashar Gajana Mantra to sing and thus gave birth to his son and heir, Prince

Vishwamitra when they came to the forest to repent. Vishwamitra gave the king the mantra

Rukmaganda.  Rukmaganda  grew  up  to  be  a  good  little  prince.  One  day,  on  a  hunting  trip

Rukmaganda stopped at Rishi Vachaknavi. Rishi's wife, Mukunda, fell in love with a handsome

prince  and  asked  him  to  fulfill  his  wishes.  The  righteous  prince  utterly  refused  and  left  the

ashram. Mukunda became very ill. Knowing of her plight, King Indra took the Rukmaganda type

and  fell  in  love  with  her

Later, when Gritsamada heard of his birth status, he cursed his mother for being an unpopular

thorny plant that bears berries "Bor". Mukunda, on the other hand, cursed Gritsamada, saying

that  a  rakshas  (demon)  would  be  born  to  him.  Suddenly  they  heard  a  heavenly  voice  say,

Gritsamada  the  son  of  Indra",  which  left  them  amazed,  but  it  was  too  late  to  change  their

curses. Mukunda was transformed into a Bor plant. Gritsamada, embarrassed and remorseful,

retreated to the Pushpak forest where he prayed for the release of King Ganesh (Ganapati).

King Ganesha rejoiced at Gritsamada's remorse and gave him the blessing that he would give

birth to a son who could not be defeated by anyone but Shankara (Shiva). Gritsamada asked

Ganesh to bless the forest, so that any devotees praying here could prosper, and he urged

Ganesha  to  stay  there  permanently  and  asked  for  information  about  Brahma.  Gritsamada

built a temple there and the idol of Ganesha was inscribed there called Vadavinayaka. Today

the  forest  is  known  as  Badraka.  It  is  said  that  if  the  coconut  was  found  to  be  prasad  while

Maghi  Chaturthi  was  eaten,  one  would  be  blessed  with  a  son.  The  temple  is  therefore  filled

specially with devotees during the time of Maghi Utsav.
